Foremost, the Clearinghouse develops strong, trusting, and collaborative relationships with our partners so we can apply science in understanding your needs and challenges and test out potential solutions. Frequently, this means spending time with you; in your office, on your installations, and in military-impacted communities. Armed with in-depth knowledge, we work on investigating, developing, and delivering applied solutions. These solutions take on many forms; writing background research reports, conducting applied research studies, building workforce expertise through training and resource provision, implementing and evaluating evidence-informed programs and practices, and delivering objective data and policy-relevant findings so that critical decisions are based on the best science and evidence available. The Smith Summer Science and Engineering Program (SSEP) is designed for exceptional high school students with strong interests in science and engineering. Engage in hands-on research with Smith faculty in life and physical sciences and in engineering. Established in 1990, the program annually serves more than 100 students. Since its inception, nearly 1,800 students have participated, representing 46 states and 53 countries. After the program, participants return to high school better prepared to tackle tough science courses and understand what to expect in college.

This course will be of interest to a wide range of students who are considering careers in disciplines that intersect the environment, as well as students interested in field-based research. These include marine sciences/biology, environmental studies, engineering, environmental policy/management, and analytical/green chemistry.

This course is an ideal choice for those interested in careers related to computer science, data science, neuroscience, psychology, mental health and cyber-security. No prior coding experience is necessary.

We believe that smart students are well-rounded. Not only do we consistently perform well above average in state exams, but we also offer students a balanced education that includes technology, computer science, engineering, foreign languages (Russian and Mandarin), music (piano, guitar, choir, and theory), art, and character development.

The AMS science program is thorough and challenging at all grade levels. AMS students immerse themselves in earth science, physical science, and life science studies with an emphasis on how to use the scientific method to understand, explain, replicate, question, and design th
